Careers

Help invent a game format.

Live-stream games sit somewhere between a party game, a broadcast, and a distributed system. Nobody has fully figured them out yet. That's the job.

How we work

Small team, live audience, short loops.

Prototype in the simulator, prove it on stream

Ideas start in the Douyin developer IDE, move to a private test account in the streaming companion app, then go live with partner hosts. A week from idea to real viewers is normal.

Everyone plays the games

We watch our own streams, read the chat, and argue about what to change. Designers read code and engineers pitch mechanics.

Written, async, bilingual

We're distributed across time zones and work in Mandarin and English. Decisions get written down. Meetings are for the things writing can't do.

Open roles

Where we need help right now

All roles are remote-friendly and full-time unless noted. If you're a strong fit for two of these at once, say so. That's often exactly who we're looking for.

Gameplay Engineer, Web / Canvas

Engineering · Remote · Full-time
Apply

You'll build the game cards that render inside the broadcast: fast, small, and readable on a phone screen while the host is talking over them.

What you'll do

  • Build interactive game cards in TypeScript on Canvas or WebGL for the Douyin live mini-game runtime, and their TikTok counterparts.
  • Turn streams of comments, likes and gifts into game input with predictable, forgiving rules.
  • Hit a steady frame budget on mid-range Android devices while thousands of events arrive per minute.
  • Work with the host panel and backend so a round starts, syncs and ends cleanly across linked rooms.

You might be a fit if

  • You've shipped a browser game, a Canvas/WebGL visualisation, or a real-time UI with tight performance constraints.
  • You're comfortable reading platform docs in Chinese, or eager to learn with help.
  • Experience with PixiJS, Phaser, Cocos or a hand-rolled render loop is a plus.

Gameplay Engineer, Unity

Engineering · Remote · Full-time
Apply

For richer, 3D or physics-heavy live games we build in Unity against the Douyin Unity mini-game SDK. You'll own that path.

What you'll do

  • Build and ship Unity-based live mini-games that integrate the platform's live interaction and host-connection APIs.
  • Keep packages small and start-up fast, since viewers arrive mid-stream and expect the game to be already running.
  • Design gameplay systems that scale from a handful of players to a whole room, with the crowd acting as one or many.

You might be a fit if

  • You've shipped a Unity game, ideally on mobile or as a mini-game inside a super app.
  • You've integrated third-party SDKs and dealt with platform review processes before.
  • You care about how a game reads to spectators, not just to players.

Real-time Backend Engineer

Engineering · Remote · Full-time
Apply

Every live game is a small distributed system: ingest room events, keep authoritative state, match rooms together, and push results back within a second.

What you'll do

  • Design and run the services behind our games: event ingestion, game-state authority, host-to-host matchmaking and settlement.
  • Deploy on Douyin Cloud (抖音云) for platform-side data over private links, and on Azure for our own services and analytics.
  • Build the boring, critical parts: idempotency, rate limiting, anti-abuse, replay and observability.
  • Define the contract between the game card, host panel and server so gameplay engineers can move fast.

You might be a fit if

  • You've run WebSocket or pub/sub systems under real load in Node.js, Go, Rust or similar.
  • You've worked with Redis, a message queue, and at least one cloud provider in production.
  • You like the idea of a system whose load spikes when a streamer says "everyone type A".

Game Designer, Live Interaction

Design · Remote · Full-time
Apply

You'll design games where the host is the game master, the chat is the controller, and the audience is both player and spectator.

What you'll do

  • Invent and prototype mechanics that work with the inputs a live room actually produces: comments, likes, gifts, and host actions.
  • Design for a crowd: how ten thousand people make one decision, and how one person's gift feels meaningful.
  • Design host co-op and versus modes within platform rules, including the ones about what a team battle may and may not look like.
  • Watch streams, read chat logs, and turn what you see into concrete balance and pacing changes.

You might be a fit if

  • You've designed party games, live-event mechanics, streamer-integration features, or social features in games.
  • You can write a clear spec and also sketch or prototype it yourself.
  • You understand Douyin or TikTok LIVE culture as a viewer, and ideally as a streamer.

Creator Partnerships & Live Ops

Operations · Remote · Full-time or Contract
Apply

Games only matter if hosts play them. You'll bring our games to streamers and bring what streamers need back to the team.

What you'll do

  • Recruit and support partner hosts on Douyin and TikTok, from first test stream to regular scheduled play.
  • Work through the platform's joint-operation programs (直播联运) for distribution and revenue sharing.
  • Run live-ops: launch calendars, in-stream events, and feedback loops with the design team.
  • Track what works with data, not vibes, and tell the team plainly when a game isn't landing.

You might be a fit if

  • You've worked with creators, MCNs or guilds, or you've streamed yourself.
  • You're fluent in Mandarin and comfortable in English, or the reverse with a plan to bridge the gap.
  • You're organised enough to run a launch and curious enough to sit in a stream for two hours taking notes.

How to apply

Email us with the role in the subject line. Skip the cover letter. Send a link to something you built or designed and two or three sentences on why live-stream games interest you. We reply to everyone.
